Receipts and verification

Every memory write is a receipt: a signed record of what was stored, who stored it, and when. A receipt is never edited. A change is a new receipt that points to the one before it.

What a receipt holds

  • The workspace, the agent or person that wrote it, and the agent's version.
  • The action, and for an agent action the rule that applied and its decision: allow, deny or needs_you.
  • A SHA-256 digest of the content, not the content itself. The memory text is not part of the hash, so a receipt can be shared without sharing the memory.
  • prev_hash, the previous receipt in the workspace's chain.
  • provenance: verified by agentics.you, self-reported, or imported.

The full field list is the receipt schema.

Where you get one

  • MCP. record_action, log_action, report_outcome and record_outcome return receipt_hash, verify_url and check_it_yourself, a link to Check a receipt with the hash filled in.
  • REST. A memory carries receipt_id once its write is recorded. DELETE /v1/memories/{id} returns the receipt_id of the delete.

A receipt from record_action is marked self-reported: the agent says it did the work. log_action checks your rules before the agent acts, so its receipt records the decision as well.

Receipts chain

Each receipt names the one before it in the same workspace. Receipts are batched, and each batch root is anchored, so a receipt cannot be changed or removed later without the check failing. An outcome, a correction or a delete is a new receipt that cites the original. The original keeps its hash.

Check one

Anyone can check a receipt, with no account. Paste the hash on Check a receipt, or call the checker:

bash
curl -s "https://agentics.you/api/proof/verify?hash=$RECEIPT_HASH"

The reply says whether each part matches: receipt_recomputed, chain_ok, merkle_ok and anchor_ok. verified is true only when all of them do. It also returns the batch root and the anchor transaction. It never returns the memory's content, amounts or who was paid.

A check proves the record is the one that was written, in that order. It does not prove the memory is true or the action was a good idea.
